SYRIA’S CIVIL WAR

-
Syria is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest.
-
The ongoing Syrian Civil War was inspired by the Arab Spring revolutions. It began in 2011 as a chain of supposedly peaceful protests, followed by an alleged crackdown by the Syrian Army.

Background

Ideation
CONCEPT 1
Hell is a funnel-like sunken building, an island floating in the middle, as a paradise. On the ground are ruins and bleakness, on the island are nature and peace. Ethereal and lofty paradise, showing Syrians' extremely desire and treasure of peace.

CONCEPT 2
A teardrop-like architecture represents the scared prayer room which is submerged in water to create a peaceful atmosphere. The freestones represents the ruins damaged by Civil War as a museum to engrave the past history and devastating losses. The leaking lights represent hope in the war, though fain but still worth striving for it.

CONCEPT 3 (SELECTED)
Ney is an end-blown flute that figures prominently in Middle Eastern music. In some of these musical traditions, it is the only wind instrument used. The ney has been played continuously for 4,500–5,000 years, making it one of the oldest musical instruments still in use.

SONIFEROUS PRINCIPLE
Prototypes in common life: The airflow flows through a narrower gap at high speed, causing turbulence then phonate.

1. Steep changes in pipe diameter cause chimney effect
2. Different internal barriers form different air-flow routes.
3.The length of chamber influences the length of air-flow route.
4. The changes of air vents control the direction of sounds.
